Rovers' improvement on the pitch was evident as they finished 6th out of 24 teams. 2 teams had been added to the Third Division South in the close season, GILLINGHAM and COLCHESTER UNITED.
Record: Played 46 Won 20 Drew 15 Lost 11 For 64 Against 42 Pts 55.
Only 2 wins in the last 13 matches saw a swift slide down the league table.
HIGHLIGHT OF THE SEASON was the FA Cup run eventually losing to NEWCASTLE UNITED in the quarter finals, although most supporters ignore the fact that it took 2 replays to beat LLANELLY in the 1st round and GILLINGHAM 2 replays as well in round 2. All told, 11 FA Cup matches that season.
63,000 saw Rovers' epic 0-0 draw in Newcastle before the Eastville replay.
The centre of ROVERS' programme was bizarre, both teams were listed TWICE as they also appeared upside down, o.k. if you were viewing from the side of the pitch....
There was a great 12 match unbeaten run through October to December 3 draws and 9 wins including a 2-1 win over Bristol City in front of a 31,500 crowd.
