BRISTOL ROVERS ~ 1955-56

Centre of the Plymouth Argyle v. Rovers 2nd April 1956, Dai WARD scored the only goal of the game, this was Rovers' 3rd game in 4 days over Easter, having beaten Argyle in Bristol on Good Friday(2-1, MEYER and WARD, then losing 4-1 (WARD) against Rotherham United on Easter Saturday.
Today's players wouldn't manage 3 games in 4 days now ~ would they?

A great write up of the MIDDLESBROUGH game at Eastvile on 26th Nov 1955, Rovers had lost the previous game 3-4 at BARNSLEY, but won the 3 prior to that defeat: LEEDS were beaten 4-1, Rovers won 5-3 at FULHAM and BURY beaten 4-2 at Eastville.

In 5 consecutive matches Goals For 23 Against 12 ~ that's entertainment!

A very successful season in League division 2

Played 42 Won 21 Drew 6 Lost 15 For 84 Agnst 70 Pts 48

Rovers finished 6th, but places 3,4,5 &6 all had 48 ponits.

SEASON'S HIGHLIGHT must have been:

FA Cup Round 3.

BRISTOL ROVERS 4 MANCHESTER UNITED 0

Biggs 2, Meyer, Bradford notched our goals.

Almost 36,000 saw this game at Eastville, beating the team that was, at the time, top of Division 1, including Duncan Edwards and a defence containing 5 English internationals.

What a let down when we lost to Doncaster Rovers in Round 4 !

DAI WARD was becoming a regular in the side at inside-left, he scored a goal in 8 consecutive matches, which, I believe, is still a club record.
